Time For The Blues ~~ October 7, 2017

Henry and I hope you will join us this Saturday night at 11 Eastern for the latest rootin’ tootin’ rockin’ rollin’ and other things that dangle a participle, episode of Time For The Blues! After our outstanding performance on last week’s Pledge Show, they decided that Double Secret Probation Rules are back in play!
This is going to be a fun show as we focus on a great performer who is coming to town, Tommy Castro! We’ve featured Castro several times in the past – most recently for his albums Method To My Madness and The Devil You Know – and now we’ve gotten our hands on an advance copy of his newest Alligator Release, Stompin’ Ground and can’t wait to play it for you!
We’re doubly excited as Castro is coming to Richmond and will be playing The Tin Pan on Sunday, October 15. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, you better get them post haste as I have a feeling this one’s going to sell out. I’ll be there, and just might be able to get Henry out there as well. Check out the Tin Pan’s website (http://www.tinpanrva.com/) for all the details.
Richmond has had several great shows lately – I had the pleasure of introducing my friends Jason Ricci and The Bad Kind for their show at Buz & Ned’s Real Barbecue and new friends Vintage #18 at The Tin Pan recently and saw a number of great blues fans. Lots more great shows coming up that you don’t want to miss, and if you see us hanging around, be sure to stop by and say hello!
If you want an autographed picture of us in our rally jackets, we just might have to oblige you…
(Sorry, we don’t actually have any pictures of us in rally jackets. We’re going to have to correct that. Henry, get on that will ya?)
Another big set we’ve got cooking is the soulful blues of Johnny Rawls. We played a few sides from his last album, Tiger In A Cage, and have been waiting to see what would be his next album. The wait was worth it, as Waiting For The Train is very strong as well. You know I love soul music and when I get a chance to share some with you, I’m going to take it.
But just like the announcer says when you are thinking about ordering those Ginsu Knives, wait, there’s more! It’s time for another look at some Virginia Blues Artists and this week, we’ve got three who are making their Time For The Blues debut. The first up is a gentleman who unfortunately is no longer with us, Billy Ray Hatley. Hatley was a driving force in the Roots Music Community and was often played on Page Wilson’s Out Of The Blue Radio Revue. Recently I acquired a copy of his release Big City Blues and we’re going to share a side with you this weekend. We have two other Virginia Artists, including the duo of Parker & Gray from Staunton, who will be representing the Richmond area at this year’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis and Tom Dikon And The Jukes Revival from the Tidewater area. All this music is hot and you just might walk away with a little more appreciation for our local performers.
You know we’ve got even more new music for you! We’ve got great sides from Bad Luck Woman & Her Misfortunes (yes, that’s the real name of the group), Cassie Keenum and Rick Randlett from their album Hauntings, and a sneak peek at Kim Wilson’s new CD, Blues And Boogie Volume 1.
So, do what you have to do to join us at 11. Sleep late, take a nap, grab that caffeine, just be sure to join us. We’re going to have a great time and we sure would love for you to come along for the ride. You know where we’re going to be, point your browser to http://ideastations.org/radio or join us on one of the Idea Stations: 89.1 WCVN, Northern Neck; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagship, 88.9 WCVE-FM, Richmond, where it’s always Time For The Blues!
Check these shows out!
