Time For The Blues ~~ July 15, 2017

John models his new shirt from Eliza Neals!
Henry and I hope you will join us on Time For The Blues this Saturday night (July 15) at 11 Eastern as we have a ton o’ fun scheduled to help get you through the night. It’s the middle of July and walking around Richmond is like walking through soup.
Henry and I spend much of the day hugging the air conditioners around here. I’m still looking for a good deal on one of those warehouse fans for my office to blow even more cool air my way. If you have a deal on one, please let me know…
Just to make a hot night hotter, tune in for some great blues music, including a set from one of the hardest working men in the business, Lil’ Ed, and his band, The Blues Imperials. Ed is one of those guys who may not get the publicity that others get, but let me tell you, he is one helluva player and puts on a great live show that you won’t soon forget.
Ed visited Richmond a couple of times back in 2016, as he was promoting his Alligator release, The Big Sound Of Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials. Just in case you missed those shows (and you might want to kick yourself if you did) much of his live act those nights came from this album. Longtime friend and blues superfan, Scott “West Side Scotty” Nugent tells some of the best Lil’ Ed stories – including how Ed used to duckwalk down the bar. One day, I promise we’ll get South Side Scotty on the show to talk about some of the many other bands he enjoyed while living on the West Side of Chicago.
He mostly hung out in the South Side. That’s White Sox territory y’all, and the place where Bad Bad Leroy Brown lived. Plus, they have great blues there every night…
Hey, if you’ve got a great blues story you want to share, drop me a line at timefortheblues@gmail.com. I want to hear ‘em.
That’s not all the great music we’re bringing your way. We’ve also got some lively music from our pal, Mick Kolassa. Mick does some great acoustic and country blues, and he’s got a sweet sound that you don’t hear all the time. We hope you will kick back and enjoy selections from Taylor Made Blues.
Quick note – Mick has a very interesting album that dropped a few weeks ago, and we’ll be featuring some tunes from it shortly. It’s a very cool album called, You Can’t Do That, which features all acoustic blues versions of Beatles’ classics. You won’t want to miss that!
Also on tap for Saturday Night are some great tunes from some artists who might not be on the top of every bill, but they are quickly garnering great reputations and we’re going to play some kick-ass tunes that we think you will enjoy.
For example, we’ve got Sammy Eubanks with a song that I’ve been singing for weeks around the house. We’ve also got Shaun Murphy, a lady who has been belting it out of the park for some time, and her album It Won’t Stop Raining. Keep an eye out for Murphy who is on the road with Bob Seger these days.
We’ve also got Nancy Wright from her VizzTone Release, Playdate! and Lex Grey and the Urban Pioneers from their album, Heal My Soul. Plus we’ve got sides from Mary Jo Curry and Kat Riggins. You won’t want to miss a single note! I guarantee it. And just for tonight, since you’ll be tuning in, we’re going to be 11.43% funnier than normal. You just wait and see…
So, do what you have to do to join us at 11. Sleep late, take a nap, grab that caffeine, just be sure to join us. We’re going to have a great time and we sure would love for you to come along for the ride. You know where we’re going to be, point your browser to http://ideastations.org/radio or join us on one of the Idea Stations: 89.1 WCVN, Northern Neck; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagship, 88.9 WCVE-FM, Richmond, where it’s always Time For The Blues!
